AUGUST UPDATE 2014!
Once again our Children have been enjoying a 3 weeks school holiday and quite a number of activities were lined up for them. Besides the Children `s school performance for the previous term was inspiring. As a way of encouraging them to continue working hard the best Children were taken to hungry for chicken and chips and second best for ice cream,of which the children really enjoyed. In addition the children are getting ready for the third term and school starts on 1st September, 2014.We wish them all the very best for the term!
The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself. Proverbs 11-25. The Children also visited the Livingstone Maramba old people`s Home and during their visit they presented some lovely cards made by the Children, sang 2 songs and blessed them with a 10kg bag of rice and 2 liters cooking oil. The old people were so happy to see the children and they also took time to share words of wisdom to the Children. We also toured the home and most interestingly we had a privilege to talk to one of the oldest man in the home who is 120 years old. we later on toured Maramba market one of Livingstone `s oldest market.
In addition we have been so blessed at Kwathu Children`s Home and the Phiri family. Both Parents to Mrs. Jeanette Phiri from Germany are visiting Kwathu, their grand children and some tourism especially that Livingstone is a Tourist Capital City. They will be leaving next month on 5 September. We wish them a lovely stay in Livingstone.
The Children had so much fun at the famous Victoria falls. The older Children had a privilege of reaching the boiling pot situated at the bottom of the Victoria falls and crossing the knife bridge whereas the younger ones only crossed the knife bridge. It was such a wonderful experience for the parents to Mrs. Jeanette Phiri as it was their first time to visit the site.
24th August, 2014 was a special day for the Kwathu family. We celebrated Mrs. Jeanette Phiri `s birthday at their home residence. It was so special in such a way that both parents to Mrs. Jeanette Phiri from Germany were also part of the celebration. The event was characterized of the braai, nice yummy food to mention only a few .Children from Kwathu, close friends to the Phiri family both local and international were part of the celebration. Moreover we sang happy birthday to Her and one of the little girl invited who was also celebrating her 4th birthday .We all had a wonderful and joyous time.
During this month we had 2 ladies from Netherlands; Noel and Daphne who blessed the Children with assorted items, we also had another blessing from our 2 Germany volunteers lea and Marcel. Green valley farm, which is based in Livingstone, has faithfully continued to support Kwathu Children`s Home with a variety of vegetables on a weekly basis. We are so grateful for the continued growing support from both the Local and International community in caring for our dear children.
All through the month of August, we ve` had 2 volunteers from Netherlands Noel and Daphne who were with Kwathu for about 4 days, we also have Nusly an American volunteer who will be working with Kwathu for 3 weeks and finally we have 2 Germany volunteers Lea and Marcel who will be working with Kwathu for 6 weeks. Throughout their stay mainly the volunteers spent and will still be spending some quality time with the children doing some recreation activities such as painting, crafting, coloring, drawings and football.
During this month not so much work has been done especially on the main building. The bathroom and the toilet has been successfully completed on the small house, and the fitting of the floor tiles is still in process they are likely to be done by next month hopefully.
Next, at present the slab for the veranda has been completed.
On the main building the focus has been on electrical wiring and fitting electrical switches. Land scaping is also in progress. Most of these work stages will be completed next Month.
In addition, as way of ensuring sustainability of our project, the garden project which is mainly managed by our staff Allan has been progressing and we hope it continues to expand. Some of the crops includes vegetables, potatoes, tomatoes, bananas and Onions.
Finally, one of our goals for next month is to have the 3 phase power upgrade connected, which is a commercial electric package which consist of a higher voltage which will enable us to use electricity for all the buildings at the property. This whole process will cost us about K5000 which is $800.
All this progress has been made possible by the financial support of Hope Builders, GraceKlein Community and Tandeka.e.v Ausburg Germany
